The two latest sessions of the UEFA Executive Master for International Players took place in Spain (5-9 September 2024) and Germany (9-13 December 2024).
The 4th session, which was held in Madrid, was coordinated by Francesc Solanellas and was titled “Managers in Action”. Throughout the week the participants of this 5th cohort had the privilege of being hosted by La Liga, the Civitas Metropolitano stadium of Atletico Madrid, the Club de Campo Villa de Madrid, the Spanish Federation (RFEF) and the Real Club La Moraleja. The group gained a great deal of insight into the financial management and control of clubs, as well as key aspects such as negotiation, communication and human resources. This session was also highlighted by an oral presentation of the participants’ MIP reports. Outside of the session, we had the pleasure of sharing some wonderful moments together, especially with a visit to “Legends, the Home of Football” and a meeting with the MIP mentoring team.
The cohort wrapped up 2024 with the 5th session of the programme, which took place in the Düsseldorf region of Germany. This session, coordinated by Christophe Lepetit (CDES) and Stéphane Ehrhart (UEFA Academy), was dedicated to tackling topics of significant importance to clubs: stadium and event management on the one hand, and the sporting and technical direction of clubs on the other. Many subjects were discussed, including player evaluation, scouting strategies, talent identification and development, club business models, stadium ownership and management, future stadium needs, etc.
In terms of event management, we took the opportunity to shadow the UEFA team that was mobilised to organise the Champions League match between Bayer Leverkusen and Inter Milan. We were able to see all the steps involved in creating a successful event before attending the match. Last, but not least, a joint event was organised with the UEFA Alumni Association. Around 60 people attended the event, which was a great way to create links between the MIP alumni and the current participants.
The final three sessions will be held in London (February), Miami (April) and Rio de Janeiro (June). Participants will have to defend their theses during the viva voce, which will take place around the Europa League final in Bilbao (May)
