The UEFA MIP V in Paris

A few months after the first session organised in Switzerland, the participants of the UEFA MIP 5th edition met in Paris for the second week of the programme. Led by Joël Pinson (UEFA Academy), this session was dedicated to the topic of leadership and management.

The session covered a wide range of topics, from the diversity of leadership styles to the qualities and skills needed to become a successful leader and manager, as well as content related to sports management. Participants got the chance to meet their mentor and discuss their UEFA MIP report project in details.
The group also had the possibility to unwind through the social activities organised after a hard day of learning, including dinners, an evening at the Parc des Princes to see Paris SG qualify for the quarter-finals of the French Cup, and a traditional football game between the participants.

We would like to sincerely thank the FFF, Paris FC, the Ligue Nationale de Rugby, Paris SG and the Fédération Internationale Automobile for hosting these 5 days of training, as well as all the top-quality speakers who shared their expertise with the participants.

See you in Lisbon in May for the 3rd session.

UEFA MIP IV – Graduation Ceremony

Graduation Ceremony of the UEFA MIP IV cohort on 11 October 2023 in Nyon at UEFA HQ

After 18 intense months, 7 training sessions, 12 weeks of internship and the UEFA MIP report, the participants of the 4th cohort received their executive masters degree from the University of Limoges (France) and celebrated this great achievement along with the new squad of UEFA MIP V as well as with the MIP Alumni members.

The ceremony took place at UEFA headquarters (Nyon, Switzerland) in the presence of UEFA President Aleksander Ceferin, who underlined the importance of supporting former players in their transition to positions of high responsibility.

The 26 freshly graduated students are now fully equipped to conquer the world of football administration.

This graduation ceremony also gives us the opportunity to thank once again all the partners involved in the programme: the University of Limoges, UEFA and more particularly the UEFA Academy, Birckbek (University of London), FIFPRO and ECA.

Huge congrats to the class of ’23 for their commitment and the quality of the tremendous work they have done!!

The 5th edition of the programme has been launched in Switzerland

This October, the participants of the 5th cohort returned to school during the first session organised in Switzerland at UEFA HQ.

This new squad of 29 participants is composed by 22 different nationalities and together they have more than 1,600 national team selections.

Led by Christophe Lepetit (co-director of the UEFA MIP, CDES), this session was held in some prestigious sports venues such as IOC, FIBA, UEFA, Maison du Sport International, FC Lausanne Sport, and Servette FC.
The objective of this first week was to present an overall panorama of the football world. Therefore, numerous stakeholders (sporting institutions, club and player unions, fan representatives, etc.) were invited to present their role and to debate current issues in the football industry. Participants were also able to reflect on the specificities of sports economics and its practical use in football.

The whole UEFA MIP family got the chance to meet again and welcome its new members, as the Graduation Ceremony of MIP 4 and the annual General Assembly of the MIP Alumni Association were also organised during this week,

The next session on Management and leadership will take place in Paris from 5 to 9 February 2024.

UEFA MIP IV – Viva Voce

The fourth edition of the UEFA MIP ended with the Viva Voce on 29 and 30 may 2023 in Budapest.

The participants defended their managerial report in front of a jury composed of representatives of the University of Limoges, the Birkbeck College (University of London), experts in sport management and UEFA.

The resultas were announced by Christophe Lepetit (director of the UEFA MIP, CDES, University of Limoges). A dinner was organised the same night in Budapest city center to celebrate the end of the programme. On Wednesday 31, all participants were invited to attend the final of the UEFA EUROPA League between AS Roma and Seville FC. The graduation ceremony will take place at UEFA Headquarters in October 2023 during the first session of the UEFA MIP V.

Congratulations to the participants for this amazing journey and their strong progression on so many aspects during the 18 months programme.

UEFA MIP 4 Session 6 – Back to Manchester

The UEFA MIP was back in the North of England.

A couple of weeks after the MIP third edition’s finl session in the North of England, we were back to Manchester and Liverpool for the 5th session of MIP fourth edition.

Once again co-managed by Stéphane Ehrhart (UEFA Academy) and Christophe Lepetit (CDES Limoges), this session was dedicated to stadium operations and sporting direction of clubs. During these 5 intense days, we had the opportunity to be hosted by some of the most iconic English football clubs: Manchester United (Aon training complex and Old Trafford), Manchester City (Etihad Stadium) and Liverpool (Anfield).

The participants received many insights coming from stadium and sporting experts. They were also very active, taking part in many workshops and simulations. They also had to present an update of the work carried out on their managerial report.

This session was the last one of 2022. The UEFA MIP 4th cohort will meet again in 2023 for the two last sessions in London 6-10 February) and Miami (27-31 March).

Final whistle for the MIP third edition!

MIP 3 participants took part in the last session of the programme at the beginning of September in the North of England. After coping with 3 very disrupted years due to the COVID-19 pandemic during which they experienced considerable upheaval (sessions postponed, zoom sessions, bubble sessions, etc.), this final meeting was organised in Manchester and Liverpool from 5 to 9 September.

Co-directed by Christophe LEPETIT (CDES) and Stéphane EHRHART (UEFA Academy), the session dealt with two main issues: stadium and operations management and responsibilities of a sporting director.

Hosted in some of the most beautiful and iconic venues of Manchester (Old Trafford, AON Training Complex, Etihad Stadium) and Liverpool (Anfield), many experts coming from the sporting industry shared their insights and knowledge during these five days. The participants also had the possibility to shadow a stadium manager around a UEFA Europa League game between Manchester United and Real Sociedad.

After this last session – and a very busy year of 2022 – MIP 3 participants will have a final celebration at their graduation ceremony, early November, in Nyon.

UEFA MIP IV in Lisbon

The UEFA MIP IV participants attended the 4th session, in Lisbon, from the 6th-10th of June 2022. Managed by Francesc Solanellas (INEF Catalunya), this session entitled “The manager in action” was dedicated to the practical issues on how the decision-making process is organised in sports organisations. During the session, the group was hosted in some of the best venues in Lisbon: Estadio da Luz, Nova University, Benfica Campus, Portuguese Football Federation and Portuguese National Olympic Committee. During the week, multiple issues were tackled and addressed by the different speakers regarding administrative, financial, HR or legal management of sports organisations, with a mix between academic and operational insights. Among the main speakers we had during the session were: Domingos Soares de Oliveira, CEO, SL Benfica Pedro Mil Homens, Director, Benfica Campus Fernando Soares Gomes da Silva, President, FPF Ferran Sorriano, CEO, City Football Group Pedro Pinto, Founder and CEO, Empower Sports Mafalda Urbano, Deputy CEO, FPF Pablo Longoria, President, Olympique de Marseille Marco Alves, Olympic programme and missions department director and Diana Gomes, Olympic Athlete’s Commission president, Portuguese National Olympic Committee Participants were also asked to present an update on the progress and status of their managerial thesis report. The next session will take place in October, in Manchester and Liverpool.
